Bawa, Avantika, 1973-
"Coliseum" is a synthesis of three years of dedicated research and drawing focused on Veterans Memorial Coliseum, an iconic building located in Portland, Oregon that was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and completed in 1960. Just as the building has served as a framework for Bawa's experimentation with pastel and pencil, her artist's book is a platform for combining historic photos, archival blueprints and her own drawings in a way that feels at once academic and abstract, factual and fictional.; Saddle stitched book in a trifold screen printed folder. Texts by Grace Kook-Anderson and Brian Libby. Designed in collaboration with Martha Lewis.
