Filmmaker Stan Brakhage taught a number of courses on film history at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago beginning in 1969. Each class would focus on particular films or filmmakers including discussions of Brakhage's own work. Occasionally, one of the filmmakers discussed would appear as a guest lecturer or to discuss his or her work with the class. The lectures for many of the classes held between 1970 and 1976 have been preserved on the tapes in this collection. In some cases individual lectures are spread over several tapes and, occasionally, a non-course related appearance by an artist or filmmaker is included on the same tape with one of Brakhage's lectures. The collection also includes a radio interview with Brakhage conducted by Studs Terkel.
