Not working to potential: four stories to judge
The artist invites the viewer to read her short stories and pass judgment on each character by choosing, and using, the appropriate stamp provided with the work. Emily Reiser adds, "I wanted each judgment to be permanent in the book, as judgments on us are often permanent. However, sometimes what we mean to say to someone is not communicated, so the stamps do not stamp what they appear to. The stamp entitled, "criticize" stamps the red words, "I forgive you."; Pages are handmade cotton and abaca paper with watermarks. The cover is inlayed with a found report card covered with resin and the book is housed in a box, including three custom made self inking stamps, labeled with the words, "rationalize," "empathize," and "criticize."
