Ly Hoàng Ly, 1975-
Four silk panels that were part of a larger installation at Ha Noi University of Science and Technology, July -- August 2014.; Using the concept of the 'lemma' (a proven proposition used as a stepping stone to a larger result rather than as a statement of interest by itself), the artist translated the mathematical term 'faithfully flat' into a series of art projects and performances. Listening to the mathematician Dr. Ngo Bao Chau lecture on 'Affine Grassmannian' at the University of Chicago during the Spring semester 2014, the artist absorbed the course work as images and concepts, translated the mathematical language into drawings and sketches, which were then corrected and re-interpreted by the mathematician and eventually sent to embroiderers to trace the results onto silk.
