Bohrer, Melanie Teresa
Collaborative work by Melanie Teresa Bohrer and Pablo Vindel, consisting of five handmade abaca, kitakata, and animal intestine papers, stitched with cotton suture and housed in wool felt cover with nickel plated brass snaps. The colophon appears as silkscreen in white on the interior of the industrial felt cover. The work addresses themes of translation, whether those are mistranslations or what is impossible to translate. The large scale of the work and the delicate materials it is made of prompt a communal and performative viewing / reading experience. Each individual page evokes bodily topographies of being in-between, and variations in translucency, the layering of material and the stitching together of various media evoke physical memories of fissure and repair. --Info from the artists. Signed and numbered by the artists; the collection has copy 5 of 5.
