    Description

This thesis will examine how a trail revitalization project in Chicago, The Bloomingdale Trail (known as The 606), sparked gentrification in its respective neighborhoods. The revitalization of this trail, as part of the "rails-to-trails" conservancy project, served to repurpose an abandoned railroad in the City of Chicago by transforming it into a public landscape meant to connect communities. This paper investigates its creation, addresses how such efforts can act as catalysts for gentrification and displacement of long-time residents, and offers tools that can be used to mitigate the downsides of similar revitalization projects, particularly the Paseo Trail that is in development in Pilsen and Little Village.
