Show more"For "Crickets," artist Mungo Thomson has collaborated with composer Michael Webster to transcribe field recordings of crickets from around the world into a musical score. The result is a dynamic composition for a 17-person classical ensemble: violin, flute, clarinet, and percussion. The score contains 25 chapters, or "movements." - from publisher's website. The book contains a program with the titles of each movement which contain the name of the place and sometimes the date and description of the original recording, the score, and notes for an accurate performance of the cricket sounds. "Based on the Frémeaux & Associés recordings Cigales & grillons by Jean C. Roché and Jean Thévenet, reference FA663."--Colophon. Edited by Christoph Keller.

Show moreIn the style of concrete and structural music, this work departs from documentation of the piano in Franziska Koch's house as it is cleaned, creating a random and abstract melody. The artist had a 7" vinyl record pressed of the audio recording of the act of cleaning the piano, which lasted 5'05". She then invited two musicians and one visual artist to create a renotation of the piece. Sebastian Gottschick transcribed the recording as classical notation, the resulting score of which is included as a leporello. Marlon Schumacher used a computer program and sound database to create an animated video, housed on an SD card. Bei Romy Rüeggers contributed a textual translation on a sheet of perforated cards.; The original record, three responses, and one large fold-out poster are housed inside a plastic slipcase with descriptive text.; Text in German and English.

Show moreA catalogue of essays by artists, filmmakers, videographers, etc on the topic of film and issues of analogue versus digital, inspired by Tacita Dean's installation at the Tate Modern Spring 2012, an 11-minute, silent, 35 millimeter film projected at a height of 13 meters in a darkened end of the exhibition space. Dean shoots and manipulates exclusively by means of analogue film, rather than employing a digital medium; she overlays sketches and paint; cuts and photographs the raw material; and ultimately alters the sound and vision of her art in a process that is highly sculptural. Each frame of film is altered entirely by hand.; One color film strip (19 x 4 cm.) included. The piece features black, white and colorful images of both man-made and natural surroundings, flickering brightly in the darkened turbine hall. Dean herself contributed to this anthology. The book contains full-color images of raw film, stills, and some graphics.
